10 Aalsterse vrouwelijke carnavalisten vormen samen de Ravazjollen. Tijdens de prinsenverkiezing zochten ze inspiratie bij Mega Mindy maar om zondag in dé carnavalstoet van Aalst mee te lopen, deden ze inspiratie op bij Disney. De roze heksen die tijdens het Halloweenseizoen in Disneyland Park rondlopen, krijgen er dus concurrentie bij. We wensen de Ravazjollen veel succes en alvast een dikke proficiat voor jullie prachtige kostuums !

Surfer Boy is off doing this again...

And although he was due to fly in yesterday for Gidgets first day of school, bad weather and technical difficulties have meant that the chopper can't get them off until today (fingers crossed) . As much as I love having the house to myself and get excited at the bad T.V. viewing opportunities, I'm really starting to miss him now.

All went swinmmingly! She couldn't wait to go and when we got to the classroom she cheerfully kissed me goodbye and then ignored me. There was nothing for me to do except leave - which I promptly did. Now I just need to think what to do with Moondoggie for the rest of the year. Yikes!

Een eerbetoon aan Walt

Disneyland onthult een nieuw appartement als eerbetoon aan Walt Disney.

Walt Disney had al een klein appartementje in Main Street van waaruit hij de dagelijkse activiteiten in zijn steeds groeiend park in het oog kon houden. Maar Walt Disney wou een ruimte waar hij familie, vrienden en speciale genodigden in stijl kon ontvangen. Hij had hiervoor reeds plannen en schetsen gemaakt en als plaats had hij New Orleans Square in gedachten.

Aan deze droom van Disney kwam een einde toen hij stierf in december 1966 maar de schetsen van Disney’s Dream Suite bleven bestaan. Deze illustraties hebben de Disney Imagineers geïnspireerd om ruim 40 jaar later, het appartement dat Walt voor ogen had, te creëren.

“It was only natural to make Walt’s dream come true,” zei Kim Irvine, Imagineering Art Director.

Vorig jaar zijn de imagineers begonnen met de werkzaamheden en de Dream Suite zal op donderdag 31 januari 2008 voor de eerste keer een gelukkig gezin ontvangen. Niet iedereen kan zomaar een nachtje in het appartement verblijven. De Dream Suite is alleen beschikbaar voor de happy few die een verblijf winnen via de 2008 Disney Dreams Giveaway, dat een onderdeel is van the Year of a Million Dreams.

Disneyland geeft meer dan een miljoen “dream come true” –prijzen weg aan gasten die lukraak gekozen worden. Een verblijf in de Dream Suite is volgens Disney een kleine 600 dollar (zo’n € 406,15) waard.

De Formule 1 naar DLRP

Je kon het hier al op Yago’s Disney Nieuws lezen dat de GP Formule 1 niet meer op het circuit van Magny-Cours zou doorgaan maar de kans dat de Grand Prix de France (Formule 1) tegen 2010 naar Disneyland Resort Parijs verhuisd wordt met de dag groter. De Franse regering staat voor 100 % achter deze plannen en ook de leiding van Disneyland Resort Paris is er van overtuigd dat deze verhuisplannen meer dan 90% kans op slagen hebben. Dit optimisme zou volgens anonieme bronnen vooral te maken hebben met het recente bezoek van de Franse president Nicolas Sarkozy en zjin verloofde Carla Bruni aan DLRP.

Na zijn bezoek heeft de president via één van zijn raadgevers de leiders van het park laten weten dat dat de regering er alles zal aan doen om dit project te verwezenlijken, ook op financieel gebied. Dat ook de Franse eerste minister François Fillon een groot voorstander van dit idee is, is mooi meegenomen. Men denkt dat men met het organiseren van de grand Prix de France in DLRP, Frankrijk meer uitstraling zal geven in het buitenland. Men moet nu de Fédération française du sport automobile (FFSA), de Franse autosportfederatie, overtuigen.

In het verleden is er al twee keer een étappe in de Tour de France vanuit DLRP vertrokken (in 1994 en 1997) en dus heeft DLRP alle capaciteiten om het hele circus rond de formule 1 op te vangen. Men beschikt over voldoende hotels en parking, er is een station net naast het park, er is een vlotte bereikbaarheid met de wagen (A4) en ook de luchthavens (Roissy en Orly) liggen niet ver van Marne-la-Vallée. Enkel de aanleg van een circuit moet nog gebeuren in het land van Mickey Mouse.

New Beginnings

It's a busy week this week with both the offspring starting at their respective educational facilities. Sounds fun when you say it like that doesn't it!

Moondoggie and I went off today to his first ever day of institutionalised care, aka 3 year old kinder, and Gidget starts Prep tomorrow at 9.00am sharp.

I'm starting to worry that I am an unnatural parent as every other prep mother I speak to is lamenting the loss of their baby, the end of an era, such a big transition etc etc. And I'm just really, really excited. I am so thrilled for Gidg as I know she is going to LOVE school and I can't wait for her to start. Maybe tomorrow all normal parental anxieties will assail me as I wave my darling goodbye, but I seriously doubt it. It's strange 'cause I cry at anything and everything usually.

To be perfectly honest I'm not that in to pre-school aged kids and I'm thrilled I'm nearly out of that phase. I have always said that I'd love a big family if I could get pregnant, give birth then farm them out until they are 6. I adore my babies but in general school kids are heaps cooler. Many of my friends are aware of my weird preference and often hand me their babies just to annoy me, others don't even bother and pass me by when little Johnnie is being handed around the doting friends.

So tomorrow if you see me at school and I am a blubbering mess you'll be able to point and laugh and I'll be eating my words in tomorrow's post.

For now I am off to pack my first ever school lunch, which, by the way, is a whole other set of issues and may indeed make me cry after all. Who knew the humble school lunch could be so fraught with difficulties! I'll save that rant for another post....

De Disneycollectie bij Swarovski wordt steeds uitgebreider. Nadat er een eerst een kristallen versie van de fab6 (Mickey,Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy en Pluto) te koop was, kwam er een juwelencollectie die vooral Mickey- en Minnie-achtig getint was.
Ook Tinker Bell kreeg haar eigen juwelenlijn en sinds kort is ook zij in een gelimiteerde kristallen versie te verkrijgen.
De fans van Pooh kunnen ook hun lievelingscharacters in een kristallen versie krijgen.

Disney Cinema Parade

Eerdere geruchten deden ons vermoeden dat de Cinema Parade reeds in januari 2008 zou verdwijnen maar dit bleek vals alarm. Een nieuwe datum circuleert nu op het internet. Volgens een lid van een franstalig forum (Kinoo) zou men op 31 maart 2008 afscheid nemen van de Disney Cinema Parade en zou deze dan voor een laatste keer door de Walt Disney Studios trekken. De geruchten dat de Disney's Motorcars Parade uit Walt Disney World (Disney Hollywood Studios) naar Parijs komen, worden steeds hardnekkiger en men denkt dat deze parade reeds vanaf september 2008 zijn opwachting zal maken in de Walt Disney Studios. Tussenin zou er geen parade zijn in de Walt Disney Studios.

I can't begin to explain my delight when I unearthed STARSTRUCK, arguably one of the best movies Australia has ever produced!! (actually many may dispute that) In 1982 Jo Kennedy was my screen queen and here she is camping it up in the final musical number. Donaldson en Mickey Mouse

Het Belgische kledingsmerk “Donaldson” had sinds de oprichting van het bedrijf in 1983 een overeenkomst met Disney zodat het op elk kledingstuk “Mickey Mouse” mocht zetten. Maar vanaf de volgende lente- en zomercollectie moet Mickey plaats ruimen voor een ander logo (een hond). De directie van het noodlijdende bedrijf ontkent dat het de hoge licentiekosten aan Walt Disney niet meer kan betalen. Bedrijven die Disneyfiguurtjes gebruiken moeten tussen de 8 en 12 procent van de groothandelsomzet afstaan aan de tekenfilmproducent en als je weet dat de omzet van Donaldson zo’n 20 miljoen euro bedraagt, dan weet je dat Walt Disney jaarlijks zo’n 1,6 à 2,4 miljoen van Donaldson kreeg.

Volgens de investeerders van Donaldson was Mickey het symbool van de American Dream en deze bestaat volgens hen niet meer.

“Aan deze drastische beslissing is een uitgebreid marktonderzoek voorafgegaan”, zegt de nieuwe algemeen directeur Benoit Coquelet. “Daaruit bleek dat ons cliënteel nog steeds van onze stijl houdt: klassieke kledij met een hoge kwaliteit. Uit datzelfde onderzoek bleek dat de mensen nog wel van onze collectie hielden, maar dat ze liever geen Mickey meer op hun kledingstukken wilden. De kindjes houden nog van hem. Maar eens ze twaalf zijn, willen ze Mickey liever niet meer op hun trui.”

De uitleg daarvoor is volgens Coquelet eenvoudig. 'Mickey was destijds het symbool van The American Dream. Maar die is uit elkaar gespat. Vroeger was een reis naar Disneyland in Florida iets unieks. Nu ligt Disneyland op anderhalf uur rijden van Brussel. Ook mensen als George Bush zijn er verantwoordelijk voor dat ons beeld van Amerika niet meer is wat het was. En dan is er nog een andere verklaring : “Donaldson was destijds het eerste en lange tijd ook het enige Europese kledingmerk dat een licentieovereenkomst had met Walt Disney. Die exclusiviteit is er nu niet meer. Nu kan je ook in massaketens als C&A T-shirts met Mickey Mouse kopen. Waarom zou je daar bij ons 50 euro voor betalen, als je het daar voor 12 euro kan krijgen?” Om de betere kwaliteit misschien? 'Klopt, maar die is voor Mickeyfans ondergeschikt. Die kopen een kledingstuk alleen omdat het figuurtje erop staat. Ook dat hebben we onderzocht. Slechts 5 procent van onze klanten koopt Donaldson omwille van Mickey. Natuurlijk zullen we door onze beslissing klanten verliezen. Maar we zijn ervan overtuigd dat we er veel meer gaan winnen.”

The ultimate goal for Ferrari F430 Spider Bio Fuel Concept is to cut emissions by forty percent by 2012. The company stresses that they will make this happen without compromising performance. On the F430 Spider, the fuel system and the engine control unit are modified to handle the ethanol fuel. With these changes, the Ferrari gains 10 hp along with a four percent boost in torque. On top of that, CO2 emissions fall by five percent when ethanol fuel is used. We see this as the first step - a baby step - for the company and we expect more changes in the future including the use of lighter weight components, direct injection, and possibly smaller displacement engines supplemented by turbochargers.

Celebrity Disney Dream Foto's

Disney heeft nog een 4-tal nieuwe Annie Leibovitz foto’s vrijgegeven waarop een aantal beroemdheden in een sprookjesscène uit een Disneyklassieker te zien zijn. Annie Leibovitz maakt deze " Disney Dream Portrait Series" ter promotie van a Year of a Million Dreams in Disneyland Resort en Walt Disney World.

Deze keer mochten Jessica Biel, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Whoopi Goldberg, Gisele Bundchen, Mikhail Baryshnikov, en Tina Fey in de wondere wereld van Walt Disney en de fotografie stappen.

Jessica Biel kroop in de huid van Pocahontas in een foto die de titel Where “Dreams Run Free” kreeg. Gisele Bundchen werd omgetoverd tot Wendy Darling terwijl danser Mikhail Baryshnikov Peter Pan voorstelde. Tina Fey werd een schitterende Tinkelbel.

Jennifer Lopez en haar echtgenoot Marc Anthony vormden het Disneykoppel Jasmine en Aladdin voor de foto “Where a Whole New World Awaits” Whoopi Goldberg daarentegen was voor de gelegenheid “Genie” uit "Aladdin".

Tip of the Week

If you are going to get a flat tyre make sure your car is parked directly outside the local pub where there are lots of men just waiting for an excuse to show everyone how great they are with all things car related.

It also helps if you look particularly bemused by the whole tyre changing thing and are willing to look a little helpless.

In all seriousness, the wonderful local drinkers at the Blarney Stone in Anderson St Yarraville got me out of a fix and I am genuinely grateful. Once again proving that I live in the greatest town in the world! These photos don't do justice to the number of men it took to change my tyre. At one point there were 6 of these treasures discussing the best way to raise the jack, led by the most helpful Bouncer I have ever come across. Thanks Guys!
