Vandaag is het eerste Amerikaanse Disneypark 53 jaar geworden. Het was Walt Disney himself die het park voor open verklaarde met deze legendarische woorden :
“To all who come to this happy place; welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past...and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams and the hard facts that have created America...with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.”
Walt Disney droomde reeds vanaf de jaren 40 van een pretpark die gebaseerd was op films. In de jaren 50 zijn ze dan ook begonnen met het bouwen van Walt’s droom en de officiële opening was op 17 juli 1955. Alle grote namen uit het Amerika van de jaren 50 waren op de opening aanwezig : Ronald Reagen, Sammy Davis JR, Frank Sinatra, ....
